Once upon a time, about 800 days ago, eRepublik was in its Beta version. Citizens just started to discover the fighting system and only some few small wars were taking place. Although some important territories like Russia, India, China or Germany were conquered by other countries, there were times of fast wars with a minimum amount of effort. You can see in the map below the geopolitical situation of that period:
But this pretty peaceful situation started to change and the world regrouped in bigger alliances, in order to face future conflicts, greater conflicts. This is how ATLANTIS, on 22nd of August the 2008 (currently named EDEN) and PEACE, on 26th of August the 2008 (currently named PHOENIX) appeared.
Back then, in less than a week these giant alliances started to measure their forces, for the first time, in what was to be World War I.
The first step was done by the Romanian president, Alex Craciun, who attacked Hungary. The official reason was the liberation of Slovakia, which was partly occupied by Hungary, that's why the first battle took place in Eastern Slovakia.
But when Romania attacked, in the next day, Northern and Southern Great Plain plus Northern Hungary, it was clear for everyone that it will be like never before! Even though Romania and Hungary weren't the biggest powers in the New World, unimaginable forces were unleashed, so it shortly became clear for everybody that they were all actors of the World War I of the New World. Presidents from 21 countries plus other important players were on-line almost 24 hours a day, all the "tanks" were involved on one of the sides and also present through the whole day.
We would like to remind you some of the actors of this first important event of the New World, the commanders and leaders of this war: Alex Craciun, Astromaniac, KIA Sneak, Archibald, ThisGenMedia, Flammbar, Misho, Kape, Zhuge Liang, Diarmuid, Aisac, Victor Petrescu, MachineMadness, kroovy, N. Carpathia, A. Chieftain, Krembo, Socrates, TexMurphy, bisiacco, mappina, Vlavin, mikesoft, Whac, mojtabaw, num, Chielio, Ikarti, Kherov, Brian Boru or irish_rebel.
What was the result? In just a few weeks both countries had huge increases in the number of players (it was for the first time that these increases were called "baby-booms").
These are only few details about these old happenings. We are sure that you have your stories too, that we will really like to read. It would be great if all of you could share in your comments, stories about your beginnings, funny events or any other memories from that times. So... what do you remember from your first days of eRepublik?

The End of Bi-Polarity
In the past and at the moment the present, we know the world as being divided into two alliances. Eden (allied with Brolliance) and Phoenix.
The World was dominated by two vast powers constantly fighting against one another and leading to continuous crusades with the same result etc..
This age is now coming to an end. The World within months, weeks or even days may became a multi-polar world with different alliances and powers seeking their own individual interests. What has caused all this?
Already the Americans have started forming their own alliances with Argentina, Brazil, Canada and Japan called PANAM where they claim that they will no longer "serve" European interests (who have come to dominate most of erepublik) but their own interests in the American continents (In other words they have decided to split the America's amongst themselves).
Another issue facing us is Poland. After the resignation of the Italian Eden supreme commader Biassco, Bogdan_L, a Romanian replaced him as supreme commander. Ever since the Polish have decline the extension of a Romanian - Polish mutual protection pact and under Hungarian influence quite a few Poles and Magyars been calling for "Polish-Hungarian Friendship" which is real life friendship similar to that between Greece and Serbia. The prospect of Poland leaving Eden seriously threaten Eden considering Polands importance. Phoenix also seems toasted after it lost influence in Brazil, Bulgaria and perhaps now even Argentina with the whole PANAM accord.
Now Peace between former enemies is becoming an epidemic. Days ago Romania and Serbia signed a peace treaty, yesterday the Finnish and Estonians signed a peace treaty and for the past few days high ranking Greeks have called for peace with Turkey with their only obstacles being opposition to such an agreement as well as the war-conquering hunger from the Turkish president. I of course disapprove of peace but it is becoming clear now that something behind the political curtain is going on in erepublik.
Peace between nations of Eden and Phoenix shows us that cohesion is dying down between the two alliances and the fact that "betrayals" to the alliances have increased in the past few weeks.
This is clearly the beginning of the end of Bi-Polarity in erepublik.
Phoenix and Eden are coming to a quiet end and this is all thanks to the natural enemy rule and the new resource rule which has changed countries interests...
Greece's hope in this appears to be attempting to create a regional alliance with allies now because eventually Eden and Phoenix will collaspe.
Perhaps this is a chance for the fabled Orthodox alliance?

Three new countries
These countries are: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and United Arab Emirates
Just like last time I'll be looking at this from strictly a game mechanics view point and will discuss the countries resources, borders and the effects they may have on their neighbors...or vice versa.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia will have 13 regions, the most out of any of the recent countries. This update, or last.
It will have the resources of Oil (4), Grain (3), Saltpeter (2) and Aluminum (2) For economic purposes it would make sense for Saudi Arabia to begin looking for ways to gain Iron so that it can have a strong weapons market. In order to gain the full bonus it will also need Rubber.
Altogether Saudi Arabia will border Egypt, Israel, United Arab Emirates, and Iran.
The only one of those countries who does not currently have Iron is Israel. It would be possible to look for a way of expanding to gain Iron from any of those 3 neighbors. However, NONE of its neighbors currently has a Grain resource, while Saudi Arabia has 3.
Because Saudi Arabia borders both Israel (Pro-EDEN) and Iran (Pro-PHX) I don't believe the country will truly be safe, no matter what direction it takes..unless it gets a massive baby boom.
Egypt
Egypt will have 6 regions, with the resources of Fruits (3), Cattle (1), Iron (1) and Oil(1)
It may possibly be the most "popular" new country simply because of how well known it is in RL..however, that may not be a good thing for this new country.
Egypt will border Israel, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Greece, and Turkey. It is very likely that Egypt will be thrown into the Greece-Turkey conflict, and ultimately be forced to pick a side, or be conquered with little defense
I believe that Turkey will have its eye on Egypt from early on because while Turkey lacks Iron, Egypt has it. By conquering Egypt Turkey would also gain Oil. Saudi Arabia may also be interested in Egypt as well because of its need for Iron.
For Egypt to survive it will need to make sure it has strong allies and a strong diplomatic leader who can ensure that it will receive support if Greece, or Turkey look to gather some of its resources.
United Arab Emirates (U.A.E)
U.A.E will have 7 regions, with the resources of Fish (3), Saltpeter (2), Iron (1) and Oil (1).
It will border Saudi Arabia and Iran.
U.A.E imo is the "safest" new country. I'm not saying it will have an easier time surviving than the other countries...because, lets face it. PTO's are now a part of the game
I say it is the safest because Iran has the same resources of U.A.E, and the only resource that U.A.E has that Saudi Arabia does not is Fish. It would be possible for the two countries to negotiate a trade where in U.A.E recieves Aluminum (Saudi Arabia has 2) and Saudi Arabia receives Fish (U.A.E has 3).
U.A.E may not have much to fear from its neighbors, only because it unfortunately does not have much to offer resource wise that they may need.
Because U.A.E only borders Iran and Saudi Arabia for defense purposes it would make sense for U.A.E to become close friends Iran who would be able to provide tactical support if a country does make an advance at U.A.E.

Military
starting Day 1163 of the New World, there can be only one military campaign in a Resistance War. So if there’s already an active campaign in the war between the Resistance Force of Country A against Country B, the Resistance Force cannot start any new campaign until the first one ends. Also, conquered regions will be protected 24 hours against Resistance wars. So, if Country A conquered Region X from Country B, Country B cannot start a Resistance war in region X in less than 24 hours form the moment the region got conquered.
Going on a different subject, another upcoming improvement will be related to the Natural Enemy bonus. As you probably know already, the Natural Enemy bonus was added only to the War influence so far. Soon enough, the +10% Natural Enemy bonus will be applied also to the Rank Points gain and, even more interesting, to the Strength increase while training.

100% more production in RAW companies
Starting tomorrow (Day 1,214) investing in raw material companies will bring you more resources!
All citizens working in raw material companies will extract a double amount of resources.
Taking advantage of this increase is crucial for making sure that manufacturing and construction companies run at full capacity.
